Transforming a Sea Pines Backyard: A Client’s Dream Come True
Tuesday, November 26, 2024 | The Greenery, Inc.
Nestled alongside the lush greens of the first tee and featured prominently in the RBC Heritage TV coverage, a beloved Sea Pines home was in need of some serious TLC in its backyard. With an eye on complementing the stunning backdrop of rolling fairways and greens, our client turned to The Greenery, Inc. to completely transform their outdoor space into a luxurious, vibrant retreat.
A Fresh Start with a Clear Vision
During the planning phase, The Greenery’s Account Manager for Sea Pines, Holly Haakerson, conducted a site walk with the client to assess the space and determine how to best breathe new life into the backyard. Together, they made the bold decision to clear everything out and start fresh. This approach would allow us to reimagine the area from the ground up, ensuring every element worked in harmony with the scenic beauty surrounding the property.
Key aspects of the redesign included:
- Renovating the deck space to create a comfortable, functional outdoor living area.
- Selecting Empire Zoysia grass, known for its durability and aesthetic appeal in the Lowcountry climate.
- Incorporating vibrant colors through blooming plants that will come to life just in time for the RBC Heritage.
The backyard’s previous turf was suffering from sun damage and uneven growth, making it the perfect candidate for a revitalizing overhaul.
The Greenery, Inc.’s Approach to Turf Installation
When it comes to sod installation, The Greenery, Inc. takes great care to ensure the best possible outcome for your landscape. Our process involves several critical steps:
- Soil Preparation: We begin by applying a preventative fungicide to treat the soil and create a healthy foundation for the new turf.
- Soil Grading: Proper grading is essential to ensure good drainage, which helps prevent water pooling and encourages even growth.
- Sod Selection & Installation: Once the soil is prepped, we carefully measure and cut the sod to fit your yard’s exact proportions.
The final and most crucial step in our process is rolling the sod. Using a 1,000-pound roller, we gently press the sod into the soil to encourage proper rooting and ensure a seamless blend with the ground. This step is key—without rolling, sod can look lumpy and uneven, but with the right technique, we ensure a clean, uniform look.
Why Empire Zoysia Grass?
For this project, our client chose Empire Zoysia grass, one of the best turf varieties for the Lowcountry. Known for its narrow blade and tolerance for partial shade, Empire Zoysia is a fantastic alternative to the more sun-loving Bermuda grass. It’s also highly resistant to insects and fungus, which makes it a durable, low-maintenance choice for homeowners. Plus, Empire Zoysia is soft to the touch and incredibly resilient, standing up to both foot traffic and the elements.
With The Greenery, Inc.’s comprehensive plant health program and our focus on turf care, this backyard is primed to thrive for years to come.
Adding Color and Texture
While the vibrant blooms won’t appear until spring, the landscape is already shaping up to be a feast for the eyes. Azaleas, strategically placed around the newly renovated decking area, will soon burst into a sea of color, perfectly complementing the surrounding greenery. These plants will create a dynamic contrast against the rich, green backdrop, adding both texture and visual interest to the space.
A Stunning Outdoor Retreat for Heritage
As we finalized the project, it was clear that this backyard transformation will be the perfect complement to the breathtaking views of the Sea Pines course. The combination of lush Empire Zoysia grass, a refreshed deck, and colorful blooms will provide our client with an outdoor oasis that’s not only beautiful but functional. Best of all, it will be ready to showcase during the RBC Heritage, where the stunning surroundings will steal the spotlight.
At The Greenery, Inc., we take pride in bringing your outdoor visions to life, one meticulous step at a time. Whether it’s turf installation, plant selection, or landscape design, we’re here to ensure that your landscape looks its best year-round.
