As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, your landscape is gearing up for a major seasonal shift. Spring is the perfect time to give your yard the attention it needs to thrive through the hot summer months. At The Greenery, Inc., we’re helping homeowners across the Lowcountry prepare their landscapes with expert spring enhancements designed to protect, prevent, and perfect.

Protect Your Landscape – and Your Family
Warmer weather brings more than sunshine…it also brings an uptick in pests and lawn diseases. Fire ants, fleas, ticks, and fungal infections love the spring and summer conditions, but you don’t have to let them take over your yard!

Spring Enhancement

Our teams at The Greenery recommend early preventative fungicide and pesticide applications to keep your lawn healthy and your family safe. Acting now can stop these unwelcome guests before they become a serious problem. Whether it’s your backyard, front lawn, or garden beds – our treatments are designed to shield your entire landscape from seasonal threats.

Pro tip: The earlier you treat, the better the protection. Don’t wait until pests move in = schedule your application today!

Optimize with a Spring Irrigation Tune-Up
As the heat ramps up, your irrigation system becomes your landscape’s lifeline. A spring tune-up is key to making sure it’s working efficiently, delivering just the right amount of water exactly where your plants need it. It’s important to water your lawn deeply once a week, aiming for about 1 inch of water per week. Early morning watering helps reduce evaporation and fungal diseases.

The Greenery’s irrigation experts will inspect, adjust, and optimize your system—preventing water waste, reducing your utility bill, and ensuring your lawn and plants stay healthy through the peak of summer.

Preparing Your Yard for Spring
In the South, spring is a crucial time to prepare your yard for the upcoming growing season and ensure that your landscape thrives:

Clean Up Winter Debris:  Remove fallen leaves, twigs, and other debris from your lawn and garden beds. This cleanup allows sunlight to reach the soil, promoting healthy grass growth and reducing the risk of pests and diseases.

☑ Fertilize Appropriately:  Apply a slow-release fertilizer to provide essential nutrients to your lawn. In the south, it’s recommended to fertilize around May 1st, aligning with the active growth period of warm-season grasses.

Address Thatch & Aeration:  If your lawn has a thick layer of thatch (over ½ inch), consider dethatching to improve water penetration and root growth. Thatch is a layer of dead and living plant material that forms between the soil surface and green vegetation.  Aeration can alleviate soil compaction, allowing air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots more effectively.

Overseed Bare Spots:  Identify areas with thin or bare grass and overseed them to promote a lush, uniform lawn. It’s an easy way to improve the density of turf and enhance your lawn’s color. This is especially important for lawns that may have suffered winter damage.
