Creating a Zen-Inspired Oasis: A Transformation in Port Royal Plantation
Tuesday, June 24, 2025 | The Greenery, Inc.
The Greenery, Inc.’s Hilton Head Island residential team recently had the opportunity to take on a remarkable transformation project in Port Royal Plantation. This new client had been gradually renovating their home over the past few years, and the time had finally come to tackle the front entry courtyard – a neglected and uninviting space that lacked both structure and curb appeal.

A House with Potential
When the homeowners purchased the property, the U-shaped residence was in rough shape. The front yard featured an unsightly hole and piles of dirt, the driveway was uneven and deteriorated, and the landscape offered little in the way of visual impact. They began with the outdoor space by adding a beautiful modern pool area in the backyard, but the front of the home didn’t reflect the quality or style of the work happening inside and behind the house.
That’s where The Greenery, Inc. stepped in.
Turning Vision into Reality: Clean Lines, Calm Space
Under the leadership of landscape architect Todd Parrott, our team designed and installed a landscape and hardscape plan that turned the outdated front courtyard into a contemporary, tranquil entry experience.

Key features of the transformation included:
- Demolishing the existing front stoop to open up the courtyard space
- Constructing custom planter walls and installing a modern fountain as a central focal point
- Laying elegant travertine pavers throughout the courtyard for a clean, polished look
- Introducing a “zen garden” aesthetic with carefully selected, low-maintenance plantings
- Removing the old driveway and replacing it with oyster shell concrete bordered by brick banding for a classic Lowcountry touch
- Highlighting existing live oak trees with soft landscape lighting and strategic plant placement
- Leveling and enriching the site with topsoil and sod installation, finishing the design with a small lawn to soften the overall layout
Throughout the process, Todd Parrott was instrumental in the field, collaborating with our residential crew and coordinating with a specialized hardscape subcontractor. With numerous site changes and field adjustments, it was essential to have strong design leadership and clear communication between teams – and the results speak for themselves.

A First Impression Reimagined
The completed project is now a seamless blend of modern design and Lowcountry charm – a serene and stylish front entry that perfectly complements the home’s architecture and the client’s vision. What was once an afterthought is now an elegant, welcoming courtyard that sets the tone for the entire property.
This project is a true testament to what’s possible with thoughtful design, expert execution, and a shared vision for transformation.
